Sinopsis Su trama giraba en torno a dos familias del oeste norteamericano, los Cannon y los Montoya, dueños de grandes parcelas de territorio en Arizona. La familia Cannon estaba liderada por John, un fornido ex oficial del Ejército de la Unión Estadounidense, ahora colono aventurero decidido a luchar contra la naturaleza y los apaches para mantener su rancho en pie, el "High Chaparral", y su refinada esposa mexicana Victoria, hija de otro poderoso ranchero de la región apodado "El León de Sonora", Don Sebastian Montoya.
